Please observe below Clause Pattern:

SVOd: Verb + Object (= to-infinitive clause or -ing participle clause)

Below verbs can be used to form above pattern: 

afford, attempt, (can’t) bear, begin, bother, continue, dread, fear, (can’t) help, hate, intend, like, love, mean, need, plan, prefer, remember, regret, profess, propose, scorn, start, try, venture.

E.g.:

1.      We can’t afford to waste our time like this.

2.      We can’t afford wasting our time like this.

3.      He attempted to explain it.

4.      He attempted explaining it.

5.      I can’t bear to walk with that man.

6.      I can’t bear working with that man.

7.      He didn’t bother to get their permission.

8.      He didn’t bother getting their permission.

9.      They continued to work.

10.   They continued working.

Additional exercise: To reinforce pattern into your brain you can practice saying word groups you formed 4-5 times aloud. Use correct pronunciation, use word linking technique, apply stressed timed rhythm.
